Well, I will leave that decision up to you. I won't judge you. But I think you haven't taken the risk of really putting yourself 'on the line' but are playing it safe.

Not necessarily hypocritical. Possibly self-righteous? Not for me to judge.
You see, when Jesus talked about that, it was in a context in which he also talked about self righteous hypocrites. But what he wanted to do was show them that their righteousness was really not all that exceptional. Once they would face that fact, then they were no longer self-righteous hypocrites, and so they could start working on changing.

It's not a matter of being nice or not nice to people. Relating to others is about compassion, about looking in another person's eyes and seeing a sense of humanity exactly like your own. It's about understanding the connection that runs through us all. You don't have to be "nice". You should want to be able to feel a connection to everyone, to the extent you can. A sense of brotherhood, in other words.

I think should tell you everything.

43 “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’[a] and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies![b] Pray for those who persecute you! 45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. 46 If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. 47 If you are kind only to your friends,[c] how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. 48 But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

um, yes. i believe that's how it would appear. one should be expressing their love and kindness to all people. it's especially more meaningful to be nice to mean people. that's what it's all about. how can you show preference? being nice to nice people only is the easy way out. i'm not trying to make you feel bad, of course, but the Bible teaches love, kindness, and understanding to all people. of course, there's a little bit of a hypocrite in all of us. just don't let it get the best of you.

Isn't that attitude a little 'too safe'? Sounds like you need a little encouragement to get to really know people. Outward appearances are not everything. Sometime, others are just defensive in their attitude. Maybe you would be the perfect on to smooth them over.

I think it all depends on where their heart is.

I also saw that Jesus could get into the faces of the Pharisees, so even God realizes that there is a time to use Wisdom in how to respond.

That makes you normal, and people tend to accept you for who you are without question.

When you are nice to those who don't deserve it, you suddenly find yourself under a microscope while people pick you apart, trying to find the hidden agenda. There isn't one. I just happen to be that way.

It's a LOT harder to be nice to your enemies...but that's what's taught in the Bible....do GOOD to those that hate you, Pray for those who despise you, etc....for in doing so you are heaping coals of fire upon their head. In other words, BURN them with KINDNESS!
