Immigration laws, do we have any, if so it's news to me. I thought Blair had given our country away, at least it seems that way to me.

Having read the answers, it could be said that there are a few xenophobic people about... but mention immigration and this is what happens.
The immigration laws are quite tight. However, the interpretation of the law, the lack of financial, information and human resources make the task of inforcing the law very difficult.
There is value in the Australian system of immigration and maybe it would work in the UK, if people were willing to have the detention centres naer them... which they are not. So the Great British public has defeated itself on this one.
As for EU and Eastern Europeans taking UK jobs.. this is a complete fallacy. Its a scare tactic by those who are basically racists. Bear with me on this... Minimum wage.. £5.35. Firstly, which of you will work for the minimum wage... and I know many people have no choice but to do so.... but I'm giving you a choice here. Not many of you,
Economics... the 1960's. Unemployment levels were very low... Employers could not recruit British people into the lower paid jobs... wages had to rise, the cost of manufactured goods, high intensity labour work products increased in price, everyone wanted more money etc.... an upward spiral with the example of the cost of a British Made car becoming too expensive for the man in the street to buy.
The UK encouraged .... yes encouraged migrant workers from the Commonwealth to come to the UK to do the jobs that the Brits would not take.... Bus conductors, postmen, etc etc.. all lower paid jobs then. Even the Southern Irish came to build the roads we take for granted today.
I'm not a Tony or Gordon fan.... but the UK has lower unemployment levels than the rest of Western Europe and the US of A.
Who cleans your offices, shops, etc? The Brits do not want to do these jobs. We have a shortage of skilled building workers because of the policies of earlier governments NOT funding trades education. We need these people. AND.. Your pension needs them... there are not enough British children/teenagers and young people to fund the future pension in the workforce.
When the immigrants... the Polish, The French etc etc arrive here... they take the jobs thet we Brits won't do... they work longer hours, pay more tax and N.I.C. (National Insurance Contibutions)... that funds your pensions.
The EU.... Who do you think got you 20 paid holidays per year... certainly wasn't a recommendation from Maggie Thatcher. The minimum wage.... Prior to the change in the law, some people were earning 50p per hour.... not just in sweat shops... but on those seaside fairgrounds you like to go on. Thank the laws from France and Germany that ensured that you are not exploited at work.
Like a booze and cigarette cruise? Of course... the V.A.T. is far lower in France and other places... not the EU but the national government sets the levels... France sees booze as Foodstuffs and hence why it's cheaper.. in the UK... it's a good way for ALL political parties to collect tax from us. The EU is good for us... if you are willing to use it to OUR advantage instead of moaning about it!
But all of the above is a waste of time as the xenophobic, insular and politically biased will just dismiss it as twaddle, without researching... yes researching it correctly... and all that will happen is that my answer will receive thumbs down.

The immigration laws MAY be ok, it is how they are enforced that is important. We have a lot of coastline in the uk and more importantly; there are not enough people askig this question. By that I mean who actualy cleans the house of commons?1?

Its annoying that someone gets a job (like a postal worker or call centre worker) when they cant speak or read fluent english. They are getting the job over a english speaking person (who obviously can do the job better) so that the company can say they are an equal opertuniies employer, but infact are being racist towards the english speaking people.

We don't have any do we? Thats why we're being taken for a bunch of mugs.
It really pisses me off that this country is having to provide jobs, homes and healthcare for half the poor of Europe when there are not enough of these things to go round for ordinary British people who have lived here all their lives!
I am sick of reading comments like "Oh I came to Britain and got a job even though I couldn't speak English and I got a free language course and working tax credits and a free operation and this and that".
How dare they! What entitles them to all this when there are British pensioners freezing to death in their flats and British families living in B&Bs and British people unable to find work?!?
Oh and boring Old Fart needs to pull his head out of his backside. I know loads of native Brits who clean shops and offices and hospitals and work as labourers because they have no choice - those are the only jobs available. This shite about "jobs Brits won't do" is an insulting LIE peddled by the Left and by rich, comfortably off morons like BOF who know nothing of real life for some of the people in this country!
My BF is a trained mechanic who works for minimum wage in a pub because he can't get a job in his skilled field because there are not enough jobs. Plenty of Poles get mechanic jobs at £5.35 an hour (skilled mechanics should get £10+). Employers prefer to employ immigrants as they are CHEAPER. Fact.

None. They just open the door to anyone (not from countries like Zimbabwe though). Now they regret it after all the bombings and terrorist attacks. Talk about closing the door after the horse has bolted. This country is going downhill fast - no wonder people are leaving.

Immigration in this country has gone to the dogs, here are my recommendations:
Adopt a policy similar to that of Australia, keep all known illegal immigrants interned until their case has been heard, deport those who are found to be in search of a meal ticket back to their country of origin. Those who have a genuine case should be allowed to stay, under certain rules.
Brick up the channel tunnel the less we have to do with the disrespectful French the better.
Withdraw from the EU, entirely.
Encourage greater relations with the members of the Commonwealth, (if they'll have us), whereas free immigration was allowed between the EU countries, it should be allowed within the Commonwealth, AS LONG AS THE PERSON MIGRATING WITHIN THE COMMONWEALTH HAS SOMETHING TO OFFER HIS/HER ADOPTED COUNTRY.
Anybody who has migrated during the time of our membership should be allowed to stay as long as they are providing a service to the community.

Hopeless. We have to stop building houses and keep some green space and we can't do that until we slow down the immigration.
