I've done a lot of them.

They all start with financial justification. This would be the identification of the benefits of the change and the costs associated with implementation.

Then, there is the actual execution of the change.

A simple one that I have done is the conversion from high speed to insert type tooling for NC machinery. The benefits are faster cutting and lower consumables costs. The costs are the costs of the tools and in some cases fixturing (more rigid fixtures, machinery and part designs are required in order to run fast).

Net savings of $42,000 the first year of operation after the switch. This is including having the savings generated pay for all the tooling and fixture changes required.
