It makes you willing to let other people set the tone for your encounter with them. It is a valid social strategy unless you allow them to upset you for longer than the encounter or the other person is violent.
Be mild with the mild, shrewd with the crafty, confiding to the honest, rough to the ruffian, and a thunderbolt to the liar. But in all this, never be unmindful of your own dignity.

I think you are a good soul first of all.. because you respond to niceness..
Secondly.. you have a mechnical "glitch" which is probably bourne out of fear.. which is that you feel a need to respond negatively towards bad people.. protect yourself perhaps..
Unless you are assigned to fighting for a living.. then why bother??
Honestly.. you will further pollute your mechanical being and make your soul suffer..
You can become very strong by remaining nice to nice people.. and also be nice to bad people.. or simply avoid bad people if you can't do that..
You're not a hypocrite.. just trying to be good but finding it hard in this very tough world we now live in..
Just always be good from now on.. and don't feel like a hypocrite if you have to isolate yourself from bad people..
you owe it to yourself.. you owe it to your soul..
Good luck..

It makes you human. I will tell you that it is better to treat others how you would like them to treat you instead of how they treat you. If you wait for others to set the tone you will wait for a long time before you gain the respect you seem to desire. Respect is a two way street but it has to start within each individual and be given out from there. And you have to keep in mind that people can only treat you in the manner in which you allow them to treat you.

I think it makes you normal. Sometimes at church I hear the pastor talking about how we have to be a christian with everyone and I'm thinking that is so hard to do. I think the mean people who take advantage of others are not going to change so why should I treat them nice?

It comes down to karma. Even if others are mean to you, and you want to be mean back, there is no use. It is not going to do anything or change how they act, except perhaps make them more upset, and make you feel disturbed.

Protective and unforgiving, embracing, suspicious, self-centered, rewarding, naive, callous, intuitive, presumptuous...
I could go on, but you are like most people, we just each don't always know mean from nice and the in-between. Oh, and we change our minds. A lot.

Normal.
But FYI, there is a verse in the Bible about being kind to those who don't deserve it ...you will heap burning coals on their head (proverbs 25.22). Meaning that the mean person feels ashamed, guilty for his behaviour when you remain cool and kind - and God will reward you.
Try it, it does work!

Normal, intelligent and adaptable. Don't believe the people that say you should be nice to everyone. It sounds good, but it doesn't work in real life.
