you know when you read the Pslams and next to the verses are names...this would be in your left hand side...what are those words/names? what do they mean? when i pray should i say them?

I believe they are a kind of musical notation for standard, temple melodies.

There aren't any names in the left hand column of my bible in the book of Psalms, maybe it's just a cross reference or study Guide.

In some bibles it will tell you who actually wrote that particular Psalm that may be what those names are.

Are you speaking of "selah?" --that means to pause and think about it. To think on that scripture. Also names of those who wrote the Psalms are at the beginning of each chapter....that is telling you who wrote it.
