It encourages responsibility on the roads, for a start.
Heightened awareness of the dangers facing modern traffic.
More aware and tolerant of the way traffic moves, and the dangers associated with being in traffic.
Also, you will be more aware of traffic regulations, and what a driver is allowed to do and what he isn't.
Most importantly, you need to indicate to give other road users an idea of whre you are heading.
I know modern cars do not have indicators!....Well, you would think so by the lack of use of them from idiot drivers!

Cycling proficiency and driving proficiency are strongly correlated. Both involve skills of controlling a moving vehicle. Basic skills like judging stopping distances and being able to manouver a car are usually learned by skilled drivers as children riding bicycles. Everyone I know that drives poorly can't ride a bike well either. Personally, I think it is a bad speech topic, like talking about how standing helps people walk. (It's like no sh!t) I'm sure there are several studies that have been done as well, so you can cite these studies and talk about the findings of these studies as well as talk about the strengths and weaknesses of their methodology. As for finding these studies, do your own research, it's your speech topic.

Teaches you about road rules and the dangers on the roads. Also, when you start driving, it will make you be more aware of the problems cyclists face and so you might take more care when there are cyclists on the road.
