Gospel of Matthew was written to tell A Biblical History.
The Gospel of Matthew is one of four gospels in the Holy Bible and the first book in chronological order presented in the New Testament of the Bible. Matthew was one of the 12 apostles that were with Jesus Christ throughout His public ministry on earth. The consensus among scholars is that this book in the Bible was written between 50 and 70 A.D. Matthew was a Jewish tax collector that left his profession to follow the Lord. Matthew gives a personal witness account of many miracles that Jesus performed prior to being crucified on a Roman cross. The purpose of this book is to prove to readers that Jesus is the true Messiah that was prophesized in the Old Testament of the Bible. It is an artistically written book and proves to be consistent with the other three gospels in the Bible; Mark, Luke and John regarding the historical events that occurred during the life of Jesus on earth. With 28 chapters, it is the longest Gospel of the four.

When was the book of Matthew written is a debatable question. The debate centers on Matthew 24:2: "'Do you see all these things?' he [Jesus] asked. 'I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.'" In this verse, the destruction of Jerusalem, which took place in A. D. 70, is viewed as an event yet to come. Some teachers ignore this verse and date this Gospel in the 80's or 90's. It is generally accepted that this was not the first gospel written and that it was written in the 60's A.D

The gospel was written to the Jews to answer their questions about Jesus of Nazareth, who claimed to be their Messiah. His recorded teachings are to substantiate the claim of Jesus to be the One who fulfills the Old Testament prophesies of Messiah.

The book is characterized by its inclusion of people outside of Judaism. This Gospel speaks to the church in verses 16:18 and 18:17 and ends with the commission to "Go into the world to preach the gospel to all people."

The book of Matthew was written around 70-100 AD, decades after Jesus died, if he existed at all. It was written well after Mark, which is the oldest Gospel. Some believe that Matthew and Luke were also based on another text, besides Mark, which is no longer around.

I'm not a scholar, but Matthew was probably written sometime in the 50's A.D.. It was written by Matthew who I think was a disciple of Jesus. Matthew was writing his letter to the Jews, which is why he frequently refers to Old Testament prophecies about Jesus and noting their fulfillments. Matthew is also for us. God is the Author of the Bible, but he guided what He wanted written down in the Bible. He used men to write down the Bible, His word to mankind. www.equip.org

Some conservative scholars, such as John Wenham and Norman Geisler, argue that it was written before the destruction of Jerusalem, probably between the years 60 and 65,

Nobody knows who.

It was probably written near modern day Israel, since all 4 gospels borrow from each other a lot.
