Not at all. As long as you love yourself, you have no reason to care about how anyone else thinks. I personally don't care about another's opinions of me. I have no control over that.

Very good question. If someone does things to be seen of other people, no matter how good the act, the essential nature of that act isn't the for the benefit or well being of the person the kindness is done to. It's a cold, calculating maneuver with a motive, toward a desired end. Not goodness for it's own sake. The person isn't even real who is the recipient. What does that say about the person doing the presumed kindness? A person who does kindness because it is nascent in their heart, is quite another being. In him dwells a good and decent law. So much so, he may not even deem himself ... ' good.'

Of course it matters. It matters to me and it matters to you.
Think not? Whether you know it or not, your brain needs a sense of confirmation from other people.
Psychiatrists have surmised that it comes from our id or ego's requirement to have a balance between what it knows or percieves compared to reality. ........ In other words you need to feel that there is justice in your little world.
Justice requires that a person be punished for doing something harmful to another person. And, yes, justice also requires that when you are a good person and do good things for other people you need for your community to know about that.
Proof: Clean your room, shine your car, mow your lawn, or decorate a Christmas Tree ............ You get the most pleasure, not by looking at what you have done, you get the most pleasure when your loved one or you neighbor sees what you have done and acknowledges that what you have done is "good".
I hope this helps to answer your question.
Jesus may have also thought about it when he said, "Man does not live by bread alone" -

I care what God thinks. I hope he thinks my heart is good. I search to find and live by his standards. But people are fickle. Some will love you one day, misjudge your motives and hate you the next. Look at all the comments about Jesus on this website. If you study his life you could find nothing wrong with him or his motives. He was kind humble and really a man devoted to Go and his fellow man, but even some of his contemporaries were looking for and found trumped up reasons to hate him.

I don't think so ~ as long as you know you are a good person it shouldn't matter what others think - as someone is always going to form some kind of an opinion so just knowing your good is what matters.

Yes it matters. I want to be known as someone who produces good fruit. If I sow a apple seed, I'll get a apple tree, not an orange tree. So I'll get back what I plant or sow. We are to be judged by the fruit that we bear. If we are sowing and bearing good fruit, everyone around us will know. I hope this helps. PEACE!!!

I have never cared about what people thought of me if you like me GREAT if not that is your lose sometimes some people haft to get to know certain people, People read them wrong sometimes you just have to give it time but most of all if you spend all your time trying to make other people happy then you are never really making yourself happy and that is the most important thing so if people can't see that then you don't them in your life......

yes, I want people to like me. It does matter to me although I wish it didn't. People say they don't give a s--t but if they really didn't they wouldn't talk about it and make such a big point of their tough mindedness. The truth is most people want to be liked whether they admit it or not. But not all people.

Who you really are...God only knows. So what other people think is of no consequence. The Bible does say to Christians that people will know you by your love-so it does show that what others say does matter when it comes to being Christian.

The bible clearly states the we should be trying to please God and not man, there's no way we're going make everybody happy, so why bother.
This doesn't mean to disrespect people, but don't go out of your way trying to prove yourself to anyone just let your light shine and remember to shake the dust off as you're walking away from the doubters.
