My partner can work here but it's really difficult to find places that will take her on as she doesn't speak much English and she's from outside the EU

For all those who answered to say why is she here and doesn't know english, stealing YOUR jobs etc etc - for your information, she is learning english, wants to contribute to society as soon as poss - hence looking for work now - and is here because we got married and I want to live in a free country (inspite of all the racists who live here).

There are lots of Eastern Europeans with a poor grasp of English working for agencies cleaning offices and emptying bins.
Although BEST option is to take the free council run English classes and then look for something she feels that she would enjoy doing OR start college and learn a valuable skill like Accounting.

I am sorry about some of the answers you have received. I'm British and thoroughly sick of assylum seekers coming in to sponge off us, BUT READ ON!!!!!!!!!!!
I met my partner and she also couldn't speak more than five or six words of English, she was over here helping out her cousin keeping house so she could do her business. I was the builder working for them. I didn't like the way she was being treated and talked down too, and the last straw came when the were going to send her back 3 weeks early "because she hadn't got a visa to go to Scotland" I had only known her for about a month, she was about 32 and no ties, we were getting along so well with a woman who didn't yap too much and I said she could stay at my cottage. I was renting a place on a farm. Within two weeks her brother and her mother had come over from Singapore to check me out. Two months later I applied to keep her as a housekeeper, that wasn't on, but before I could appeal I had an works accident and was in plaster 6 months. In the meantime I was in contact with our MP Mr. Roger Gale. he said he would try to help, and put up a good case and I was told she could stay. I was unable to work for 16 months and she never once complained.
She got a job as a machinest within a week, until six years later the firm went bust, started as a cleaner the next day for a year, then changed to a catering job in the kitchens and is still their. only being out of work for 2 weeks in 16 years.
Between us we now have a house, paid for, and everything in it.
"She has not stopped talking since".!!!!!!!!.
A bit different to half the lazy gits bourne here. I sincerely hope that your wife turns out like her, and that you will be as happy as we are.
Maybe she could get work in a take away, or home help, if she is Chinese or Thai, plenty of that sort of work, and you don't have to talk much in that sort of job.
Good luck to you both.!!!!!!!!!!!

well, i've been in that situation when i arrived in england, and i found a job after 2 hours as a waitress. you can apply to any job who doesn't required language skill. I start as a waitress because it was the best way to learn the language, working in a pub for few month will improve your language big time, then after you can apply for something else. As a foreigner, you can have free english course too if you are part of the EU, check with your local government. Then there is the call centre who ussually employ people who their mother tongue is not english. try some agencies. but the disavantages of it is you will not learn english you will speak your own language all day on the phone.

Not being funny, but how can she be prepared to live in the uk but not prepared to learn the lingo? She will find it hard if not completely impossible to find an employer who will give her a job when there can be no communication.
My advice? There are places like learndirect that will put your partner in touch with places to learn english. It's a must, and to live in another country and not learn the language is ignorance.

I'm not sure where you are from but there must be a community in London that speaks the same language. If you try them first they may let people help out behind the scenes in one of there businesses.
Once she has found a job though it would be wise to learn the language as quickly as possible to get the bigot's off your back.
also as long as she pays taxes and works legally then their will be no extra strain on the NHS.

Tell her to learn the language and stop being so ignorant. Can't you understand why people won't want to employ her? Think of the extra hassle she'll create in the workplace if she can't communicate with anyone. Our soft government will most likely give her free English lessons anyway since they seen to care more about the welfare of foreigners rather than our own.
