A friend of my daughter is being taken advantage of by her boyfriend. Her family does not want her with him not necessarily for this reason because they believe she is not with him.
We are not very close to the family but my daughter is very close to the girl which makes it a bit difficult. I know it because my daughter told me.

Should the parents be told?

The parents should be told if you feel she could be in danger.

dmckinner says, " I personally think you need to mind your own business. If hes hurting her its one thing. Otherwise you should butt out. "

Translation: "I have taken advantage of every girl I have ever been with. Nobody ever told their parents. I wouldn't want that to change. So, no, never tell a girl's parents about a guy who is taking advantage of her."

Seriously, "taking advantage" of somebody -is- hurting them. The phrase has a negative connotation. Negative means bad.

Do talk to the girl first, to find out what exactly is going on. If she is hesitant, scared, obviously pressured, bruised, etc, etc, PLEASE tell her parents. And if bruised applies, also tell the police.

I think the parents should be told. The parents might be able to help her more. If you don't want to tell the parents, try sitting the girl down and talking to her yourself.

i would say yes, simply because i would want someone to have the courage to tell me about my daughter... but chances are your daughter won't be too thrilled with it. is the girl being abused, mistreated, or what? esp. if she is in any type of danger they should know.
