yes puppies can start their vaccines at 6 or 8 weeks of age and should get them every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 16 weeks of age. please, don't use fabric softener on your puppy. head to your nearest Petsmart or PetCo and get some shampoo and comditioner thats just for puppies. Be sure your not bathing your puppy too often as it can irritate thier skin. One every 2 weeks should be more than enough. good luck!

Don't give vaccinations until the puppy has at least completed it's 7th week, 8 is better.Given earlier then that can interfer with the natural immunity they have and also could cause future vaccination issues. There should be a series of 3 vaccinations (no more since more then this is overvaccianting and can cause some serious health issues as well as being a waste of money)Vaccination takes place at 8, 12 & 16 weeks of age then a booster in one year after the date of the last vacciantion. After that distemper/parvo vaccination should only be given every 3 years. Rabies vacciantion needs to be given per state law, but should not be given younger then 5-6 months of age.
If you can get your hands on the Whole Dog Journal November 2006 issue it would be well worth it to you to read the article on vacciantion. Also be advised that the AVMA, AAHA and all 27 vet schools condone and highly recommend the above protocol for vacciantions and are teaching all new vet students the new protocol. Also information concerning vacciantions and over vaccination has been sent to ALL vets in the past couple of years/
Also a puppy should be dewormed at 2,4,6 & 8 weeks of age and then periodically after.
Also it is not legal in the US to buy, sell, adopt or give away a puppy that has not completed their 7th week and starting their 8th.This puppy should go back to the breeder until it is 8 weeks old. Since the breeder sold/gave it at an age taht is way too young I assume they are irresponsible and should not be breeding.
Do not give a young puppy too many baths, use only a very mild baby shampoo or Dawn dishwashing liquid.Make sure to keep the puppy warm and out of drafts. Do NOT use fabric softner on a dog especially a young puppy.

Puppy vaccs start at 6-8 weeks. There's been a lot of changes in adult vaccinations.
The American Animal Hospital Association has put the vaccinations protocol on it's website, which includes the suggested vaccines for puppies. This is the protocol that all 27 vet schools in the US are following. Not all vets are up to snuff on this; or they don't want to know.

Here's a site from Wisconsin University on vaccinations

And for some interesting reading on some of the problems of vaccines

This is a site put up by Dr. Bob Rogers, a regular vet in Texas.

Puppies have to be six weeks to get there first set of shots. I don't see how you ended up with a 5 week old puppy. Puppies shouldn't be rehomed until around 10 -12 weeks! And, about the shampoo....I use Johnson & Johnson's baby shampoo on my dog. It is very mild, and tear-free. I am not sure how safe it is to use fabric softener on dogs, but if I were you, I'd talk to a vet to find out just how safe it is. Don't do it just because someone else does it to there dogs.

Did someone sell you the puppy this young or was it born at your home? If they sold you the pup, it was sold way too young. They should have kept it until at least 8 weeks old and it should have had at least one set of shots already.

Who on earth gave you a five week old pup? A Troll no doubt? That pup should still be with its mother. Take it back.
