People fear what they don't understand .. So they call it evil ...

Or make excuses and say it was gods idea.. (I really love that one ) Human's are really stupid when they don't understand what is going on around them ..

If a person doesn't know something, they typically:
a) make up their own fantasy about it
b) condemn it
c) ignore it

I'll use homosexuality as an example.
When guys first started liking other guys, people thought it was weird, and (for the most part) condemned it, because it didn't go with the crowd. After a while, it started to be accepted by more and more people, but only after denial and ignorance. People think new things can be evil because they don't understand them. This is also why some people hate Christianity. Because they don't understand (or claim to have proof) of God.

Because any religion that claims to be the "one true way" will ostracize and condemn anyone who strays from that "one true way"
