Well I think boys should be potty trained before they are 3 to 3 1/2 years old. My son is 22 months is already using the potty. Not all the time but he knows when he has to go and will tell me. It really just depends on the child. The best way to know if their body is ready is if they can go all night without wetting their diaper. Thats when I knew my son was ready only that but one day he just ran into the potty and went. lol. Good luck!

Supposedly, boys are harder to potty train than girls. I don't know exactly why that is. However, my kids were trained at two, but I had only girls. Three and a half seems a little old to start potty training, even the most stubborn of little boys. I think I'd introduce him to the pot at an earlier age, and let him wear the pull-ups like they advertise on TV. Then if he does have an accident it's not as bad as changing a diaper or training pants. He can take them off himself if they get wet, and put on dry ones. The pullups won't soak through on his clothes. As for bowel training, most moms say they put their kids on the pot after they eat, which is the most likely time they have to go. Again, the disposable pull-ups seem to work better than either diapers or training pants. Even at two, kids are aware when they've had an accident, and it makes them feel more grown up when they can change their own pants, and they will change them because they hate the feel of wet or dirty pants even at age two. I wouldn't wait till three and a half if it were me.

my twin boys were pretty late to be trained. One was at 3 1/4, the other at 3 1/2. It's all just about their personal readiness. I don't believe that you can force a child into it. I felt like it was never going to happen, then all of sudden they were ready one day.

Every child is different. Girls usually train faster than boys. Most boys are trained by three to four. Pressuring him will only make it worse.
