i will be riding a bike and my heart rate will be monitored and i need to find out how to keep my heart rate low while riding the bike.thanks

The only way to 'keep' your heart rate low is to properly condition yourself - there is no easy way to do this as conditioning takes time. What should your heart rate be? 50 to 90 at rest and with exercise a target rate of 85% of (220 minus your age) is widely accepted. For a 20 year old that means a target heart rate of 170. What if it is higher than that now with exercise but below 90 at rest? All that this would mean is that you are not well conditioned.

Ride at a rate that's consistent with whatever shape you're in. There's no other trick. If you push hard, your heart rate will go up.

If you need to somehow pass a test, you need to get in shape.

my understanding is that you cant keep your heart rate low unless you barely pedal the bike or just sit there on the bike and do nothing.

impossible!!! as long as you are riding, it will remain high.
