3(4r+3)=-(3-r)
12r+9=-3-(-r)
12r+9=-3+r
12r-r=-3-9
11r=-12
r=-12/11

3(4r+3)=-1(3-r)
distribute
12r+9=-3+r
solve for r
12r+12=r
12=-11r
12/-11=r

when there is a number outside of the brackets, it always gets multiplied to all the things inside. a negative sign without a number is used as a 1. first, you simplify. multiply the numbers outside of the brackets. so you multiply 3x4r and 3x3 and that equals 3x -1 -1rx-1. in english:
12r+9=-3+1r, or r. a negative times a negative is a positive, always. and a negative times a positive is a negative. from here, you want to group the variables (big word for letters) together. you want to do your best to make the number with variables a positive to make division easier on you. to group them together, you just need to do the opposite of the number to get it to the other side of the equation. so, here you want to subtract 1r from the right. whatever you do to one side you do to the other, so subtract 1r from 12r. now your equation looks like this:
11r+9=-3 now it gets interesting. you subtract 9 from both sides, so now you have a -12 on the right. 11r=-12, so you divide 11 by both sides. your equation answer will end in a fraction.
r=-12/11 simplified....
r=-1 1/11
there you go!! i hope that explination helped you to understand how to solve equations. :)

it would be (and IS) a question for the homework help rather than the homeschooling category.
