Everybody is in agreement that there is shortage of soldiers and many have been doing extended service overseas

All the organizations that support the war - shouldn't they actively organize drives to increase military recruitment? Specially conservative organizations in campuses?

There's not exactly a shortage of soldiers but the cost to recruit them is going up. Also, a report came out a few weeks ago that said that about 40% of the Army hadn't deployed yet. Now a good chunk of that are the 80K new recruits still in training but stil there's plenty of sick, lame and lazy who have managed to get out of deploying so far.

Yes, I definitely think private organziations should be assisting the military in identifying quality recruits for the military. While the numbers haven't been too bad (retention has been real good), the quality of first term recruits has gone down each year. I was disappointed when Pres Bush, in the 2002 State of the Union address, did not encourage people to enlist or try to become an officer in the military.
The all volunteer force may be a great thing in relative peace but I think we will see a breaking of the force or a draft if the GWOT goes on.

Going into the military for the most part is a choice. The stuff they are offering to join the military is unbelievable. Scholarships, laptops, choice of stations, direct commisions, etc.... Lately I have noticed groups that block recruiters at the entrance of a high school or college. I still believe it is the responsibility of the government to do its recruiting and the playing field should be even. Make it mandatory for all young men and women(even Paris Hilton) to join as it is in just about every country in the world and your see how many politicians will put there sons and daughters in harms way.

The positive side to that is you have shielded so many students maybe even your own child from becoming interested in the military.

Negative side to this; if Uncle Sam who is always two steps ahead of you, does not get his numbers, he will simply resurrect the draft once again. All the people that stood in front of schools and stopped recruiters from doing their job will be the first one's to biatch about a draft. You know what Uncle Sam will say? "I told you to stay out of my way when I showed up to the schools and gave youngsters a choice." People need to use their heads and remember, you will never be smarter or more powerful as Big Brother.

Okay - here is an example of the intelligence of the 'anti-war' crowd.

Let me explain reality to you. The size of the military is limited by laws passed by Congress. The US military is at the maximum size allowed by these laws. The US military is turning away potential recruits because they have all the people they are allowed.

If you think the military is too small - then you need to complain to Congress.

it continuously does. many who might want to no longer detect respectable jobs flock to the recruiting stations. The centers are able to %. and choose from applicants, the end result., until eventually you're making an fairly favorable effect, you isn't customary. the area will change into reversed, ability recruits want the safe practices pressure better ideal than the safe practices pressure needs them.
