Why is it that a bra is singular and panties is plural?

Actually, panty is the singular form of panties.

Actually, panties is both singular and plural. Depends on the text in which you use the word.

"I took off her panties" Singular (there's only one panty, but you still say panties)

"we went shopping for panties" Plural

Just as an example.

In the future, try using the word underwear!

Good question. Maybe pants is plural because you have 2 legs and panties just goes along with it?

woah that is a good question...bra..panties emmm well maybe panties isnt plural (i know it has an "s") but maybe thats just how its spelt...or maybe im just waffling on...i dunno :)
