Personally, I think that the knee, as commented on, may react better to the shot when compared to the shoulder/back region. I would suggest checking with a chiropractor to see if there is anything that may be done. I was having back pain, had the injections with no success. I sought the aid of the chiro and found complete relief with out injections. Each person is different, though. What works for one may not for the other. He could try the injection, if no response, he could then try the chiro.

I Tore the cartilage, tendon, and muscle in my knee----- Talk about painful!
I received an injection at the site where the tendon was torn and that part of the pain went away within 2 hours of the shot. For me this was the worst of my knee pain.

Cortisone is a steroid and helps with healing soft tissue damage. If his pain is chronic and the doctor wants to try it I would suggest he have it. Some people experience a return of pain after 6 months to 2 years but it really does help!

About six years ago I had a heel spur. It was so painful I could hardly walk. I had a cortisone injection, which was a bit painful to get, and I couldn't put that foot on the floor for about two days after, but then the pain went away and so far the pain hasn't come back. For someone who is having persistent pain, based upon what happened with me, I would highly recommend. them.

I hope this helps.

cortisone is similar to an anaesthetic, your husband may feel like his shoulder has frozen as the cortisone kicks in this does not harm or endanger him in any way, the injections may help for a while but if you are still unsure then i would suggest physiotherapy. p.s these injections should be taken at least 3 months apart as too much will do more harm than good

It will help the inflammation. It is painful but worth it. But if given too much cortisone the cartilege will begin to deteriorate. There is a quota for these shots ask your Dr. I have knee problems and now am 35 yrs old with NO cartilege in my right knee. (From prolonged cortisone shots-over years) Just have the surgery if it is offered to you. Good luck. In some cases Cortisone suppresses the immune system. Just ask you Dr. about all of this.

I had a cortisone injection in my knee about three years ago and no problems. Cortisone is used when there is chronic or persistent inflamation and is perfectly safe with rare side effects. Go with your doctor on this one and your husband should have relief in a day or two after.

I have no ideal why you listed this question under the "Preschool" category, but I have an answer for you.

If your doctor states that it is medically ok for your husband to get one, then get one. But do not get one too frequently. It is actually a steriod, and could change his mood for the worse.

My husband's Grandma gets them. She feels great a few days later, but is also very grouchy. Then again that could be just Gma, and not the medication. LOL

I had some injections in my knee, it hurt like a s.o.b, there was some swelling but it began to feel better in a day with some physio. I just remember my doctor telling me that I am going to feel some pressure, then he injected it, augh, he lied, it freaking hurt.
