A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti- Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.

Here's my question:
How on earth did this happen? Jesus is the Prince of Peace, according to the Bible...why do many Christian groups and individuals see the promotion of peace as an anti-God movement? Why is protesting the general act of war interpreted as anti-Christian?
This is a real question...I'm not Christian-bashing - I am one! I just want to hear some insights as to how this sentiment evolved.

Man this makes me feel old. I spent most of the 60's and 70's wearing an old army jacket with peace symbols on it. You can't imagine how many times I heard the 'it's a satanist symbol of the broken cross' bit. I also heard 'don't you care about our troops at all?' I kept telling people 'bro I love our troops that's why I'm for bringing them hoem alive'. I ended up doing my bit in the millitary (voluntarily) and I hope folks were still out on the street wanting peace while I was gone. In my book there is no better way to say I care to a soldier than to work towards bring him or her home alive.

It sounds to me like the sole problem here lies in the attitude of the President of the Homeowners Association. It seems like it is his attitude and his attitude alone that is causing the problem. The other members of the committee did not seem to care enough to make an issue out of it.
Having said that, there are homeowner associations and condo associations that have rules that affect people living in the development. They can control the color that you paint your house. They can decide if you can put up a picket fence, and how big it can be and what color. Anyone who moves into such a development accepts these rules and if they do not then they should not move there.
What they will get now is a useless battle that will accomplish nohting except to generate bad will among all concerned.

Back in the 60's and 70's this peace sign was ALL THE RAGE of the hippie set. People all over the US used this as a Peace Symbol and wanted the Viet Nam war to come to an end. The symbol of Satan is an inverted crucifex. Where the heck did they get the notion that this was a Satinic symbol??? Heck, all they have to do is check with Hannoi Jane, (Jane Fonda) and she'll verify that is the peace symbol of the Viet Nam era.
What a bunch of dorks to sue for a peace sign. What the heck is next???

Peace signs were used before the Iraq war, they're being used during the war, and they'll be used after the war. This would be kind of like if someone were to declare a connection between the heart-sign and paedophilia. Just a ridiculous jump in logic to an irrelevant conclusion.
From that article: "Kearns ordered the committee to require Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything. Kearns fired all five committee members."
It, uh... sounds like this person has issues.

Well, a wreath is not Christian per se. Nor is the peace sign.
So, hanging a peace sign wreath is not the same as the Nativity scene that is so opposed.
You misread the story I think- the people that oppose her peace wreath are families with soldiers in Iraq & Afghanistan- and to them - even though they all want their loved ones home- it seems to be saying - war is bad. Which it is. But when someone you love is in harm's way- doing what they feel ( or felt ) was a needed action- and you have people calling them murderers, etc., it is bound to hurt.
So, I hope I have helped- I am a Christian woman and hate what the secular world has done to the ways we try to honor Christ- the King.

That's outrageous and deplorable! Those are the types of so-called "christians" who have missed the boat entirely and are backed into a corner to support an ill-advised President and his ersatz personal WAR.
It's quite unfortunate that some of them may have their sons and/or daughters in the military, and who may have been sent to the Middle East at this time.
But their protest should be directed against the White House policy --which is wrong since the U.S. has NO BUSINESS being there in the first place[!]-- and not against those of us who sincerely want to promote Peace...

This sentiment has evolved in our "politically correct" society.People often apply their own subjective meanings to symbols. It's unfortunate that a homeowners association would involve itself in what is essentially an act of censorship. Especially when the concept of peace is something the planet has never experienced and isn't likely to see in the near future.

Why do people purposely blame christians for this stuff? When you actually read the article, it's the homeowners association, not christianity, yet what's the first thing everyone does? Yep, blame christians. The promotion of peace has never been anti-christian, and never will be, no matter how hard groups and individuals try to make it look that way by misinterpreting, such as this particular question.

thats exactly what i was thinking! its so confusing. the way i see it, peace is a traditional Christmas theme, and this lady just wanted to display it. i did look it up on wikipedia, however, and it said that the peace sign originated as an anti war symbol. so these people are saying that she is anti war. well, boo them because its Christmas time and her peace sign is for Christmas (not the devil, or anti-war) hence it is a CHRISTMAS WREAT!! if she wanted to be all anti war she would have a plain old everyday peace sign not a Christmas wreath peace sign.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace for those who have been forgiven of their sins. For those that refuse to bow their knee to His authority, Jesus is an enemy.
Unrepentant mankind does not want anything to do with God. They are God-haters and love to drag the name of Christ through the dirt and use it as a measure of disgust.
Jesus rebuked Peter for slicing the ear off the soldier in the Garden of Gethsemane. He said that he who lives by the sword will die by the sword. Yet, Peter was using the sword offensively.
I don't think Jesus has a problem with defending yourself or your country. Freedom is not free unless it is defended.
If you had 3 daughters and a man broke into your home to rape them, would you defend your daughter's or let the rapist have his way? The same is true with this country. If you were President, would you hand this country over to Osama Bin Laden, and live under Shiite Law. Convert to Islam or die?
I wouldn't.
