Set out a food dish, put up some lost cat fliers.
I have a small jar of treats and I shake them saying "Kitty treats" and that always brings my cat running.
Pour catnip on your porch/front entryway.

Hi, I've had 7 cats and they have pretty much always been inside cats. If they are used to their surroundings ( you haven't moved recently) they should be able to find their way back. My older cats are too scared to run away, they hide in the bushes when they sneak out. My kitties are 9-months and one was chased down the street by a dog at 8am. I was so worried, but she came back at 3am when everything had settled down. They operate by celestial navigation and should be okay. This just happened, so I know what you are going through and will say a prayer that you get it back safely!!! She's probably hiding, just keep calling her. Good luck!

Kitty will get hungry and decide she better go home. Is she just hanging around the yard, or is she running around the neighborhood? If she's just in the yard, you might be able to corner her long enough to catch her or move in a way that scares her back inside. If you happen to have a closed-in porch, you can put food and water out and when she comes in, scare her enough that she moves into the house, close the house door, and then swing around and close the porch door. If she's roaming the neighborhood and doesn't come back within a certain time period, then I would maybe mention it to my neighbors that "Hey, my cat decided to go for a romp ... if you see her, try to catch her and let me know."

Stand outside and call for her. If she's never been outside, she might get lost or frightened or disorientated. She'll need to know which way to head to get home. If after an hour, she's not come back, try calling every hour or so. Maybe take a walk around the area, calling for her.
If she's gone for more than 24 hours, it's time to put up posters and let your neighbours know that she's missing. Be sure to call the local animal shelters to let them know what she looks like and if she's microchipped or not.
Good luck! I hope your cat comes back!

She's more capable of taking care of herself than you think :) But, to be on the safe side, make sure she's always up to date on her shots, and is wearing an ID tag. Make sure to include her name, address and phone number...that way, if anyone finds her they'll know who to call. Keep in mind that even a declawed cat can climb a tree if it's bark is rough enough, and cats can fit into the tiniest space to get away from a threat.

She'll come home if a dog doesn't run her up a tree (this just happened to me last week). My poor Punky Bruiser was 40 feet up a tree right behind my house and I didn't know it. I posted ads and flyers everywhere, couldn't eat or sleep.
If she's gone more than 24 hours, get a pair of smelly socks (with your scent), cut them in small pieces, and make a trail to your house. They sniff the ground a lot although most of us don't notice. They actually won't go that far the first day and will hide in silence. The second day, they will regain confidence and be on the move...under the cover of night, that is.
Good luck and get her microchipped...it's cheap to do!

This happened to me. Don't go after her or she will just run. My cat loves "catnip" so I put it my by door when I was home and waited for her to come around. When she did, she started licking the catnip and rolling around. I walked "slowly" towards her, and when she looked at me I stopped. When she started playing with the catnip again, I walked towards her again, and when I got close enough I grabbed her and picked her up and brought her back in the house.

Unless she gets spooked into traffic then I wouldn't worry too much... Periodically go outside and call her name... If she doesn't come home by your bedtime then leave some food out and also something that has her scent on it out.
We just moved and one of our cats was gone for three days before returning... I know that it's nerve-racking but she will return...
P.S. - Even though I am not very religious, I do say a prayer to St. Anthony that goes like this... "St. Anthony, St Anthony please come around... Something has been lost and must be found.. Please help me find (insert your cat's name here). Now, if you leave your trust in St. Anthony then your cat will return. Just remember to thank St. Anthony when she does return!
Good Luck!
