It's because the ignorant atheists, not all atheists, just the ignorant ones are so set on "proving" themselves right, and Christians wrong that they will use -any- argument that even seems slightly like it disproves Christianity or the Bible. If anyone here thinks that the Bible is -full- of contradictions, I dare you to name three, post it as a question, and see your answers. Either you're looking out of context, or using different wordings. You need to understand the customs of the time, who the author was writing to, and who he was, and why he was writing it. With that, you can explain any apparent "contradictions."

Its really difficult to have faith in the bible and religion when so many use the bible/religion as a crutch for evil and hate. As people pick-out bible verses to support their hate others do the same pick out verses to believe in. Religion is a person thing, different for each and every individual. It should not be a tool for evil or control it should be about the message of peace and love. I'm going to take a amature stab at the inner workings of human nature and suggest that because so many "bible thumpers" are opposed to alternative lifestyles its natural for those same people to turn around and reject the bible. When biblical believers dont accept a womans choice for abortion, homosexuals or anyother "non biblical" lifestyle it makes sense why so many people don't conform to that way of thinking. What kind of example do "holy people" set? Spreading the message of pro-life and killing abortion dr.'s or claiming that adultery is a sin and they molest young boys? Those might be a couple of reasons why people are opposed to the "biblical principles." in my humble opinion.

people beleive the contradictions for the same reason that others overlook the contradictions... author function. A single text may have different meanings for each reader. I'd offer that human nature is what is in opposition to the bible, the protagonist of the new testament was killed for suggesting people should be nice to each other. That, in and of itself, is a powerful comment on human nature.

There are some phrases in the bible that "seem" to contradict themselves. I agree but they have to be taken in context. There is a passage that ways (paraphrased)
1) Rebuke a fool unless they will think they are wise in thier own eyes
but right below it is..
2) Ignore a foolish person. The more you argue with them you will also look foolish.
It seems that there is a conflict that the writer or the Proverbs is not paying attention or does not understand what he is writing but he indeed knows. He wrote them close together for a purpose. You have to use discernment to know when you should correct a foolish person who is just misinformed and when to ignore a fool who wants to argue. Whether it lost some meaning during translation is up for debate but I understand what the passage is saying even though it looks as if it is a conflict.
It would help if you had specific passages that I could study and reference. Without a passage or an example it is like asking me what I had for lunch but not letting me know what day you are talking about. If you tell me the passage in question I can give you a good answer.

One wrong quote or contradiction means the whole book is a fiction God does not make errors..........
Who was the father of Joseph? Matthew 1:16 The father of Joseph was Jacob. Luke 3 :23 The father of Joseph was Heli. Christians shall try to LIE and tell you that one is the heritage of Mary and the other Joseph. This is utter bullshit, the Hebrew and Greek cultures NEVER regarded the bloodline of the mother. They were patriarchal societies which only concerned themselves with paternal lineage.
How many generations were there from the Babylon captivity to Christ? Matthew 1:17 Fourteen generations, Matthew 1:12-16 Thirteen generations.
Bible can't be a word of God........nowhere

i've got not precisely heard of a "faith" as such, yet there are various small communities that have confidence in this. i will understand why they reject the bible, the bible exchange into written by guy and guy is obviously bias. So subsequently there is an hazard the bible is biased. The bible has been edited and translated maximum of circumstances that the clean version of the bible is long previous. subsequently the Bible would be unreliable. subsequently inflicting doubt between human beings to have confidence the bible. yet although they nonetheless have confidence in Jesus. All achieveable.

Many people assume that the bad things that are in the Bible (especially in the Old Testament), are there because God approves of them.
Often that is used as an argument against the divine authorship of the Bible.
However, the bad things in the Old Testament are merely descriptions of the state of man alienated from God.
God put them in there to show man's state apart from God.
The whole purpose of the New Testament (in relation to the Old) is to show what God has saved us from, by the coming of Jesus Christ.
And about the so-called contradictions in the Bible, they can be explained by the fact that the whole Bible is a description of the process of God training and educating man.
There is an earlier, a middle, and a latter stage of that training and educating.
So what might be applicable to one stage, may be reversed in another, because opposites are appropriate when two different stages are considered.
For example, when a father raises a son, what he might have the son do at 8 years old, would be completely different than at 18, because of the different levels of maturity.
For example, with respect to knowledge, in one part of the Bible it might say that man does not know God and in another it says he does.
That is not a contradiction.
That is there because in between those two phases, God has revealed His nature to man, so that what he did not know initially, he knows after.

There are no verses that explain them. You can interpret another verse however you want and pretend it's an explanation but it's not. As much as you don't like it, the Bible is riddled with contradictions.

I think that some people are more prone to asking "why" than others. Someone who requires evidence isn't going to reconcile with faith easily, if at all. There really are a lot of contradictions in the bible and points of moral contention, believe it or not.

There is not actually that many contradictions in the Bible that cannot be explained. I have a book called "When sceptics ask" and "When critics ask"...I like to have them in hand when someone asks something i do not know.
Faith is a process.
