I am 23 now and right about 14 I started questioning being Catholic also. I think at around 14 you realize the world isn't fun and games like you thought it was and start to have to act like an adult. Up until I was 14 my parents were the ones who brought me up Catholic, and then all of a sudden it seemed as if it was up to me. I think you are at an awesome point in your walk with Christ. Don't give up or give in to the lies that you are wrong.
This is a learning expirience for you. I went through the same thing, only it took me till about 2 years ago to figure it all out. I am so much stronger now, so don't give up. I think you are just at the age where you are taking the responsibility out of your parents hands and are now having an awesome individual relationship with God. It is kind scary and it makes you question a lot, but stick with your faith and you will be so much stronger and it will help for those future temptaions.
The world is going to throw a lot more out there, and it is going to be harder to deal with as time goes on. Questioning isn't bad, as long as in the end you are closer to God. Good luck and God bless!

Hi there.
I can understand the discomfort you're experiencing right now, and I think it's a good idea for you to think about things and examine your beliefs. Since you're wondering if God exists but you "know" he does, ask yourself HOW you know. Why do you believe that the Catholic God and Jesus are the one true God? Why don't you believe in Allah or Baal or Zeus?

Even though it may seem like a silly question, it's not. You probably don't know very much about the other gods I mentioned (except maybe Zeus), but until you've learned about the gods that other people believe in (perhaps even more than you believe in your God), you will never be able to defend your beliefs.

The truth is that there is not any direct evidence of any god at all, but I won't tell you there is no God, you have to decide for yourself if you believe in God and then...you have to decide which God to believe in and which religion to practice (if you practice one at all).

If you think God might be "testing" you by putting these thoughts in your brain, ask yourself why would He do such a thing? If you "fail" and lose your faith, Catholicism teaches that you'll end up in hell for an eternity - certainly God wouldn't want you to be there because of Him!

Check out the websites below, keep asking questions and searching and above all, keep thinking! You have a big brain, capable of rational thought and not using it is the very worst sin you could ever commit.

There is nothing wrong with you...

Or actually there is something wrong but not with you. The whole humanity has something wrong. We have been set apart from God because of sin.

Having doubts is part of the human condition. We live in a world that denies God's existence through school, TV, science, etc.

The good thing is that there is a solution. Jesus died for you and me to close the gap between God and us. However as with any relationship you must nurture it.

Have you ever had a close friend that you stopped seeing and now you don't have any relationship with? The same will happen if we do not seek God every day.

If this is not the case, and you are reading your Bible, praying and even attending church regularly, I would advise you to test God. Find an elderly home and share some time with the elderly, or a homeless shelter and be a volunteer. There are many ways to work for God.

You will not find the answer to God's existence in the web. The best way to help yourself is to go work for others.

Negate yourself and help others. You will strenghten your faith.

I was a Protestant and became Catholic last year.

Those feelings are normal, we all have them.

I suggest you spend some time in prayer, and consult people within the faith. At 14 there should be some kind of youth group, or youth leader to ask, you can also always ask your Priest.

When studying to become Catholic, I also studied things outside the Church, historical writings, etc. You do have to be careful in that some of these are slanted to twist the meaning of the Bible.

Don't assume that just because you have doubts that your faith is wrong. There are many choices in Religion, and some seem quite welcoming and good at first glance, remember that does not make them correct in their teachings, they are trying to make you "Feel Good" Be wary of false teachings.

In the end, I became Catholic at the age of 41 because the Church started with Peter, and does not "change with the wind" God is constant and wrong is wrong the same today as it was 2000 years ago.

Watch EWTN if you can, it is a great channel and explains a LOT about the Catholic Faith and Christianity.

You can also ask questions at:

Good Luck and God Bless you!

I went through a similar experience, as I think most people have. It is normal (and intelligent) to question what you are taught. Do no believe something just b/c someone tells or teaches it to you. Do you own research and come to your own conclusions. I was raised a Jew and believed in Genesis and the Old Testament (that is the Jews Torah). Until I questioned some of the things I was taught and looked into other alternatives, such as scientific explanations. I found the scientific explanations to be correct in my eyes. Also, I looked to history and found how man has created religion and not God. It is scary how much of Jewish and Christian faith and bible stories come from old Pagan stories, which predate the bible by thousands of years. To me this is proof that at least some of the bible is man made. So to make a long answer short - you should never believe something just b/c you are told or raised that way. Do your own research and don't be scarred to explore other alternatives. If religion is right for you it will stand up to other alternatives, such as science.

The people who grow the least are the people who never doubt. I would not disavow my religious upbringing all at once, nor might I do it at the tender age of 14, but I would want to satisfy my curiosity. In my experience, you can learn a lot about your faith from the outside.

Look into other belief systems (including atheism). Be skeptical, not cynical. There is wisdom in every approach or it wouldn't survive. Eventually, one path will speak to you. It may even be your former path but it will be a better, different one. Take your time. Don't let anyone bully you. The test is self-administered.

Good luck on your journey!

Hi--- for whatever it's worth-- I was raised a Catholic.

Four and a half years ago, Jesus manifested in my life and I have never been the same spiritually with God.

You may want to check this website below. I hope that it would give you answers.
http://www.catholicconcerns.com/

There's more to God than meets the eyes--- marvelous, wonderful, glorious things and I can only thank Jesus for opening my eyes and setting me free from religious, unfounded doctrines.

May God bless you-- BTW, that something or someone is the devil trying to manipulate your mind, if you do not know. Like God, Satan is real, too.

In your learning of the Creator, keep in mind what times we are living in, 2 Timothy 3: 1- 5. They are very hard times to deal with. I want you to ask yourself, Why are we tested?. We have to prove our loyalty to God as the Sovereign Grand Creator.

Who in the beginning questioned God's authority? Satan - it is his goal in life to push people as far away from God as possible.
So by encouraging some doubt on your part Satan feels he is making headway, But stand your ground.

Read the story of Job...remember how God said "Take everything from him and he will still serve me."?
How did Job meet all of Satan's test... he overcame them and continued to give God the glory and was blessed for it.

This world wants you to doubt your faith when in reality, it's the most important thing we have...

I would suggest, pray - pour out your heart and He will indeed help you. But make sure you put Satan in his place, like Jesus did- behind him.

So to answer your question, no there is nothing wrong with you - but you so have a lot of courage to ask such a strong question for someone of your age.

God is real. He is alive and well. He is waiting on you to make the next move to ask him to come into you heart, as John 3:3 and Johyn 3:16 explain the born again experience. It might be conviction from the Holy Spirit showing you to be on your best and live for God. Don't worry what others try to make you believe or think, that is just the old devil trying to convince you. Don't give the devil the time of day. Live for Christ as He lives in you! God bless you!

There's not a thing wrong with you. It's completely natural to question your faith at one time or another. Read the bible and talk to friends and family if you feel the need, but remember that what you believe is truly up to you. Some people do this and become athiests (like me) and some end up with stronger faith than they did beforehand. Whatever the outcome, good luck to you.
