I just read that Erik Morales has talked with Bob Arum about a June or July fight against Casamayor for JC's Lightweight Title.

"Ring legend Erik Morales says he wants one more fight in Tijuana, then he plans to retire. However, Morales isn't planning a "goodbye fight" against lesser opposition. "El Terrible" wants to end his career fighting for the WBC lightweight world title in June or July."

Morales' motivation to take on the Lightweight Champ is if he is successful he would break the Mexican record he currently shares with Julio Cesar Chavez (world titles in three different weight divisions).

Morales was quoted as saying, "I will only fight for the world lightweight title....then win or lose I will go away from boxing."

I have to say this looks like an interesting match when you take into account all the difficulty Erik has had making 126lbs. But as always I'd like to hear some educated, gritty, ring savvy responses on what your thoughts are about this match-up?

I also hoped "El Terrible" would be hanging up the gloves Brent. Most critics site his various "battles" as being the catalyst to his downfall, but its also why he is one of the most "watched" fighters in recent years. Casamayor shapes up to be another "war" I hope he doesn't go out like he did against Pacman. On the other hand I definitely don't want to see this legend get seriously hurt. Thanks for the reply Brent.

As much as I wanted Erik to retire and sip margaritas for the rest of his life down in TJ, this match is very intriguing. The slashing jab of Joel vs the determination of El Terrible. Both possess KO power Casa already proved he took the punch with him as he rose the libras ladder.

The weight has been such a thorn in Erik's side now he gets to fight at a (what I assume) more comfortable weight for him. Only wish he had did this 3yrs ago. He'd probably be reigning over 135lbs today. I agree with you Bk this shapes up to be another battle for Morales but that's his trade or his cross to bear based on past performances. I will be pulling for Erik to win the fight if it does get signed for this Summer. Nice Question and Fast with the Info Thanks.

I think Erik should call it quits. He's had so many tough fights and given us fans all the thrills that you would want from a fighter. But he's 1-4 with 3 straight losses in his last 5 fights. A fight with Casamayor is full of intrigue, but Casamayor has a style that can make Erik look bad and if he has one more bad outing and a loss, then i think people will really start to lose interest in watching him fight. And that would be a shame because Erik is a great warrior who deserves better than that. Maybe he has one more great fight left in him, who knows? But as a fan who has appreciated him for years, i would like to see him retire.

I think Morales should retire. I honstely think Casamayor takes this fight with his jab and southpaw style. I believe Erik is done. Too many brutal fights.
