My child will take her father's last name. I gave him that option. If he wanted to recognize her and take responsibility than she would have his last name. If not then she would have mine.
A combination wouldn't be bad but I like to keep things simple. So one last name is it.

That is your option. They can be name clinton or name bush or name clinton bush or name bush clinton.

But you have to be consistant in this.

Many organization like what is known as "exclusivity of name", so make a decision and stick with it.

some parents hyphenate their kid's last name.... like Name Clinton-Bush. however what is written on the child's birth certificate plays a big part.

My kids have both last names just because we were not married when we had the first child so we just did the combo for all three kids.

I kept my last name when we were married. So, our girl's name on her birth certificate is
First Name - Katherine
Middle Name - Bridget
Last Name - Mine-His (hypenated like that)

The Social Security card people got it right.
The military (hubby is in the military, so we had to send in her birth certificate for dependent stuff and insurance) did not...they just combined our names into Minehis.
