What are you building and where is it going to be used?

For example, if you are making the frame of a house and are toe-nailing walls that are mounted on a wooden structure, ordinary 3-4" nails are fine, but galvanized nails are better, especially if you expect the area to be damp, such as a wall built on a concrete foundation or basement floor.

If your building a gazebo, picnic table, or other outdoor furniture, it may be better to have nails that will not rust, for example.

You should review local building codes in your area, as they may have special requirements to deal with issues in your climate.

A 10d, or 10 penny nail is about 3 inches long and usually works best for framing also.
