make something easy and wholesome for everyone. Something like a simple pot roast and baked potatoes with gravy. This was always a hit in my family, and it sounds like you are trying to develop one here. Make something that you favored in your family when you were younger and you can't miss. Good luck on your "date". By the way, is the boyfriend staying over? . . . if so, serve some ice cream for desert so the kids can get a sugar hi and pass out, then they won't hear anything, wink wink.

Mac and cheese (add extra cheese, butter, milk) and you can also add sliced hot dogs or Italian sausage (all kids love mac and cheese) or ham and cheese sandwiches and chicken or tomato soup (my 3 kids love this one) or Fish or chicken "fingers" with mashed potatoes and veggies on the side.
