I've never heard that, and I've done a lot of tattoo research. I have one on the back of my neck, and I don't have any kind of muscle or nerve problems.

I actually have a tattoo on the back of my neck. It didn't mess with my neck muscles at all. Make sure you go to a good artist. Be warned the neck is a sensitive spot. I wouldn't suggest it for a first tattoo.

I've not heard that...but there could be issues related to your spine if you get it on the back of your neck, or nerve issues as well because there's just not much "meat" on the neck but there are lots of things inside it which are quite sensitive.
Do some research online and see what you can find...if you can locate stories or articles of people that had problems with neck tattoos. The next one I want, will go from my hairline to my butt crack, so the neck/spine will be completely involved.
Dang...it's gonna hurt!

I've never heard of this or of the "nerve issues" related to tattoos on the back of the neck (in theory, this would also apply to tramp stamps as you have a major nerve cluster in your lower back too - Never heard of nerve issues there, either.) Your nerves are well below where the needles of a professional tattoo gun will hit. I have a tattoo on the back of my neck and several other tattoos as well. None of them were painful - Passing a kidney stone is painful. A tattoo is childs play compared. All inks used in the united states are FDA regulated. They are non-toxic and safe. Your biggest concern is going to be a "dirty" parlor. Make sure that the parlor you go to is licensed by the state (if required in your state beyond a standard business operational license) and has no recent health inspection violations. Observe their procedures before you get a tattoo. Make sure they have clean and sanitary procedures. They should use only pre-sterilized needles, and dispose of needles in a sanitary manner.

i don't know of any issues with muscles and neck tattoos. my tattoo artist has three tattoos on his neck and has never mentioned any problems. tons of people have them so i'm sure there's nothing to what you heard. but i hope that you will consider the placement of your tattoo... it could affect future employment opportunities or even just consider the fact that you won't be able to hide it easily all the time. good luck!

i've personally never heard this. i think your neck may be sore for a while and may get some bruising if the tattoo artist really gives it to ya. necks are more prone to infection. your more likely to get a skin infection than forever screwing up your neck muscles.

It will not affect the muscles in your neck. It will make your neck sore though. The needle only goes in about 1 cm or so.
