Death is a door through which life is possible. To understand life, death needs to be accepted.

When you die, your soul rests in the grave until Judgement Day. Since death is like sleep, it will be instant in our experience, so don't worry people. You will know immediately that your false beliefs have led you to a terrible place (whether you believe in it or not) Best to find out while there is time.
Confess to priests all you want-they can do nothing for you. Don't expect purgatory. It don't exist. That's been proven too many times.

Technically Roman Catholic. I call myself Liberal Catholic.
Heaven and hell exsist and heaven is permanent, only love and joy there. Hell I am still deciding if it is permanent. There is also purgatory, which is like the place people get cleansed of their sins...like if you arent good enough for heaven but not bad enough for hell. I think that if hell is permanent then everyone goes to heaven but they also have a long time in purgatory.

Christianity- Yes Heaven and Hell exist. God will show you every sin you committed and if you asked Jesus in your heart (Believe in Jesus, Confess your sins, and try to life for Him) then Jesus vindicates us and says that all those sins are forgiven and gone- then you go to Heaven where we thank God for allowing us the forgiveness and hang with Him for eternity. Hell is where you go if you haven't accepted God into your heart. I say this answer by reminding you that we cannot just ask God into your heart just to avoid hell but to find the fullness and joy in THIS life AND the next that God gives.

Yes, heaven and hell exist. There are a few potential situations for what happens to you when you die (according to Catholic doctrine):
1) If you die in a perfectly holy state (no sins on your soul), you will go straight to heaven. (There are also other rare cases, such as martyrdom- being killed for your faith- which could send you directly to heaven.)
2) If you die with no mortal ("big" sin, such as murder) sins on your soul, but you have commited venial (smaller sins, like lying) sins since your last Confession: you'll go to Heaven, but not before you spend some time in Purgatory, where you'll undergo suffering in reperation for your sins. This is like how a blacksmith would heat up a metal before using it in a sculpture, to get all the defects out.
3) If you die with a mortal sin on your soul, without having confessed it to a priest, that means you go to Hell. Sorry! :-)
Hope this helped!

What happens when a person dies?
The spirits of both the righteous and the wicked return to God. Their bodies return to dust.
"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7.
Answer: The body turns to dust again, and the spirit goes back to God, who gave it. The spirit of every person who dies--whether righteous or wicked--returns to God at death.
What is the "spirit" that returns to God at death?
There is nothing mysterious about the spirit that returns to God at death. It is the breath of life.
"The body without the spirit ["breath," see margin] is dead." James 2:26. "The spirit of God ["the breath which God gave him," see margin] is in my nostrils." Job 27:3.
Answer: The spirit that returns to God at death is the breath of life. Nowhere in all of God's book does the "spirit" have any life, wisdom, or feeling after a person dies. It is the "breath of life" and nothing more.
4. What is a "soul"?
These four people are four souls.
"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7.
Answer: A soul is a living being. A soul is always a combination of two things: body plus breath. A soul cannot exist unless body and breath are combined. God's Word teaches that we are souls.
5. Do souls die?
"The soul that sinneth, it shall die." Ezekiel 18:20. "Every living soul died in the sea." Revelation 16:3.
Answer: According to God's Word, souls do die! We are souls, and souls die. Man is mortal (Job 4:17). Only God is immortal (1 Timothy 6:15, 16). The concept of an undying, immortal soul goes against the Bible, which teaches that souls are subject to death.
6. Do good people go to heaven when they die?
"All that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth." John 5:28, 29. "David ... is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day." "For David is not ascended into the heavens." Acts 2:29, 34. "If I wait, the grave is mine house." Job 17:13.
Answer: No, people do not go either to heaven or hell at death. They go to their graves to await the resurrection day.

No religion -- Atheism is the lack of religious belief.
Know beyond a shadow of a doubt that death is the end, just like birth is the beginning. Remember what it was like before you were born? It's like that again after you die.
