Greek isn't quite so hard as it's made out to be--it has fairly simple grammatical and pronunciation rules that are quite reliable. If the listen to the CD and repeat method doesn't work for you (it doesn't at all for me--I need the grammar first), a company called Living Language puts out some very nice textbook-type books that you could probably slam through in five months. They have more in-depth structure and such--nice if you're going to be there for more than a short trip, especially.

online programs often have really good ways. tapes, cds, I like DVDs.

For the actual trip, you should bring some flashcards or a list of key terms. If all else fails, remember how to say "Please speak more slowly," Often, if you say it enough, eventually they will give up, and just take you and show you what you want to know.

I really recommend learning how to say "Thank you," even if you learn absolutely nothing else. People really appreciate it if you take the time to learn that.

My father travels a lot because he's a consultant. He's found that, even when he knows nothing else, saying "Thank you," after everything really makes people happier, and can help you if you annoyed them by accident.

Go to your local library -and research conversational Greek - you might be able to pick up a video or audio tape and go for it! My daughter did this when she wanted to learn Japanese real quick.
