Does the "friendly" bacteria in yogurt survive the harsh acids in the stomach?

I was also wondering if the bacteria in the yogurt survive the harsh acids in the stomach. What do you think? Some say it doesn't and others say it does.

I asked that question to a doctor. He told me that the friendly bacteria can survive the acid in the stomach and is good for the colon.
