Tell me what tips, ideas or insights you wish you had known before you had your first child. I am looking for stuff that goes beyone what the traditional books write about, and moves towards the psychological, emotional and relationship balance between a couple.

before the baby is born, let your partner know how VERY important his help will be. Even if you BF, if he get the baby and brings it to you, that is a much appreciated help.
If he works and you stay home, than if he can just watch the baby while you get a hot shower before bed...great helps!!

Not every waking moment is going to be all fun and games. There are going to be really rough times when you'll have to make constant sacrifices for yourself. In the end though, you'll be happy you had a kid. I never had a child though, I'm speaking from watching everybody else growing up around me. All my cousins are having children now. Just be patient with your child and understanding, if things get out of hand that your child had no control over (like him/her getting sick and going out of both ends at once) don't get so mad that you make him feel emotionally worse like my mother did.

I wished someone told me that out of all the expensive baby crap I brought, about 85% is a waste. It would of been nice of someone to let me realize that my new baby isn't going to care whether his nursery cost 45 dollars of 1500 dollars. Now he's a toddler and I can't use any of his "top-of-the-line" baby crap I brought for him anymore.
