The other day I was driving my 1996 VW Jetta (Manual), and it became very hard to get the car into gear. If I was moving, it seemed okay, but when I had to stop it wouldn't go into first. I tried putting it into every other gear, and it still wouldn't budge. I pumped the clutch twice, and finally after pushing extremly hard I was able to get it into first gear. The same thing happened almost everytime I stopped my car. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Will this be possible to fix myself? Is my car safe to drive to school tomorrow?

You'll definately need to get a new clutch. I had a very similar problem. I noticed it one day and the next night I couldn't get my car out of my garage. Get a new clutch right away, you don't want to be stranded anywhere.

From what you've said it sounds like you may have a sticking clutch-it's not entirely disengaging to put it into gear, and trying to put the car into gear while still connected to the engine is gonna be rough on your gears. If you're comfortable with clutch repair, go to it, but it sounds like you may need a mechanic to take a look at it. I would take the bus/cab get a ride to school, because you don't want to have that problem going down the roadway and have a car come up behind you as you are slowing down.

Sounds like the fluid in the clutch master cylinder is low. Pop the hood, just to the right of the brake master cylinder is going to be a smaller clutch master cylinder with a small cap. Take the cap off, and add some DOT-3 brake fluid. Put the cap back on, and pump the clutch a few times to let the air bubbles out of the line. For the fluid to be low, you either have a leak, or your clutch is worn out. Either way, you will need to get it checked out soon.

Your clutch is dragging,needs a slight adjustment in the linkage.The clutch is wearing out.It is not disengaging completly.

check gear oil,cluch pump oil level if every thing is ok you must see a mechanics.

YOU NEED A NEW CLUTCH. THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT THAT CAN BE MADE ON YOUR CARS CLUTCH, IT IS SELF ADJUSTING.
