I have two speaker systems that I would like to use for my laptop, one is 14 watts and the other is 1200 watts, they are both $30 which would be a better buy?

dmb06851 is right. The 1200 watt speakers and the 14 watt speakers will sound the same, unless you turn the volume way up. 1200 watts is a lot of power. Either the power rating is erroneous or you misread 1400 milliwatts or something. I wouldn't trust any computer speaker that claims to be 1200 watts.

Even 14 watts is quite a bit of power. You won't be able to turn them all the way up unless you want to bother every body in your house or adjacent apartments.

Don't confuse Output power of the amplifier to Power drawn from the supply.
Sounds to me like 14 watts is power output of the amplifier and 1200 watts is power draw when plug into the wall.
You can't compare those two, you want power output of the amplifier.

Neither is "better."

If they are both sold as laptop 'speakers then I would suggest that the specification of the higher power pair is fraudulent and meaningless.

Neither your laptop nor your ears will notice any difference between them

Buy the ones which look the best.
