Is this your wisdom tooth? this usually happens with wisdom teeth because they tend to go up and down sometimes for a long time and can be painfull I know, I had the same broblem. eventually it will go away or they may need to extract them. either way, you won't have to live with this forever.

It sounds like you have pericoronitis. The tissue is inflamed and to make things worse, it gets in the way so you bite on it all the time - ouch! I think you'll have to see the dentist. You may need a prescription for the inflammation. If there is enough room for the tooth to come in, s/he may just cut it back a bit (not as bad as it sounds). If not, that wisdom tooth will have to go. Take a cup of hot (as tea or coffee) water with a tbsp of salt and hold in the area for a few minutes, spit it out, do it again... a couple times a day. It should help. =)

If you are cutting a tooth then: You can use Orajel and oil of cloves will deaden the pain also chewing on the gum will be painful but let the tooth come in easier.

Numb it with an ice cube. It will stop bleeding. If your desperate just twist it until it comes off. Try hitting it with your tongue and sucking on the piece of gum. I hope you get rid of the loose piece of gum :)
