It is high season in Thailand now and every accomodation charge double than usual. Even if you get crappy accomodation, it is still expensive so take it or leave it. christmas and new year are coming soon so most of the accomodation could be fully booked. KOh samet is considered really expensive place to go anyway, try KOh Chang- it cheaper than koh samet but also really nice place.. Have fun!

Invest in the book 'Lonely Planet - THAILAND' has a wealth of information for the serious traveller, room rates, phone numbers etc

wake up my friend you want cheap or you want good accommodation. you pay for what you get. and if your coming during the high season (nov to feb) every beach area accomodation is almost 1/3 higher.

just do it when you get there. theres plenty of beach huts that are fine to stay in.
