Yes. I was deployed to Iraq for 12 months. I got home back in Jan. of this year. Being that I was the one who was there; I don't really notice any changes in myself. But other people have told me that I'm a lot more laid back than I used to be. Before I went over seas I used to get pissed over anything and everything, and now apparently; I don't sweat the small ****.
Yes, I would absolutely do it again. Being over there was a wonderful experience. Don't get me wrong; I had my fair share of "bad days", but looking back I wouldn't change any of the choices that I've made. And that includes enlisting.

Yes I have. Operation Desert Storm 1991.
It hasn't had many affects on me, some memory loss and slightly more joint pain than is supposed to be normal for someone my age but on the other hand I went to college, bought a house, and owe my job to having served in the military. I would definately do it again, the only reason I didn't reenlist for this war is that I have two small children at home.

I did not fight, however, I was the wife of an active duty Marine. He left for Iraq in January of '03, 2 weeks before our daughter was born. He has a hard time now, becuase people seem to have forgotten that this sort of violence is not about us, it is civil unrest because of the different sects that want to be in control- imagine if people in the US believed in their convictions so much that the recent elections led to democrats and republicans killing each other at every turn! We can not begin to conceptualize these peoples' state of being! Most never had running water- elelctricity or a minimum standard of living. Conditions there are not good. Too many people are dying. We have to do something, and quick, but is the answer to abandon the people, the HUMAN BEINGS, and just leave them to their own devices? I don't think so.

I served a tour in Iraq.
The biggest lesson I got was in just how negative and shallow the news is when reporting on the war.
It seems to me that we are going to lose the war simply because the news media feels that losing generates better ratings - and one political party feels that a defeat would help them gain political power.
I would go back again - but the doctors refused to lift the profile.

I haven't but my little sister did for the first 6 months in Iraq. She is now on medication and has severe anxiety. She says that she signed up to go to Afghanistan and take care of the wounded who are fighting against terrorists but wound up in Iraq patching up innocent civilians who were wounded and some died in an illegal war. The war in Iraq is about money and it saddens me that the American public has let this go on for as long as it has.
