My daughter is on a mission in S Korea and I am raising my granddaughter. They also sent her father and step father and she needs her mother. She is 3 and the pain and sadness I see her going through everyday is not fair. I believe that we need a military but not at the expense of a child. How can I get my daughter home? I've tried the Red Cross. The Army has ignored them.

I have my family here in Korea. Your daughter can choose to take your granddaughter with her as well. Not living with your granddaughter is your daughter's choice. Nowadays even troops stationed north of Seoul can bring their families and receive an allowance for off-post quarters.

My suggestion is to try to reuinite your family by taking the child to her mother, rather than bringing the mother to the child.

She could get out on a Hardship Discharge, but they are hard to get...and that would set a bad precedence, then everyone who was in Korea who's child missed them would want to come home. I spent a year in Korea, it is hard, but when you are in the Army you know this can happen...but in all honesty she should not have joined or taken a Pregnancy Discharge before the child is born...like I said I spent a year there and my room mate's child was two months when he left and a year and two months when he got home...it is just the price you have to pay...the Red Cross will not do anything unless the child is really sick...I feel sorry for the child, but it happens when you sign your name on the doted line....

I am sorry but that is what you daughter has sighed up for....by signing the contract you accept the fact that you will be seperated from family and friends....I don't like it, but it is necessary....Going into the military is a very large commitment....and until her term of service is up...there is not a whole lot you can do.

The fact of the matter is that your daughter was given a choice. Accept that she could be separated from her child or leave the service.

She made her choice.

It's not going to happen unless the child has a specific illness that is life threatening. And then SHE may not come home depending on her job and that of her father or stepfather. This is one of the pitfalls of both parents being members of the military.

Sorry..............

hi. there are so many families that are dual military. thank god you are there for your grand child. a lot of people don't have family member to take care of their children while they are gone.
i understand she is 3. you can put a lot of positive ideas in her head that her parents are working and have her send letters to them.
you daughter had to do a family care plan in a even this happens that had to leave.
god bless
