curd is a result of the cheese making process where a coagulant is added to the milk which causes the milk protiens to clump together.

Yogurt is a fermented milk product where beneficial bacteria cultures are added to the milk. The bacteria eat the milk sugar and acidify the milk which form a loose "curd" but not like cheese curd.

Can you substitute the two?

I guess it depends upon what you're making. You'll have to drain the yogurt so it "firms" up a bit.

For the most part, I would think not. The texture of the two are totally different where yogurt is smooth while curd is clumpy and chewy.

You can probably use cottage cheese for cheese curd. Both are made with a similar process - coagulation.

Yogurt is fresh curd that has not soured up. When yogurt becomes soured up it becomes curd. Yes you can make yogurt.Add alittle curd into boiled and cooled milk and leave it overnight in an environmental temperature of about 20 to 25 degrees centigrade. It becomes yogurt in about six hours.

My guess would be no, as curd is the beginnings of cheese, and yogurt is a live culture milkier product.

I made my yogurt from condensed milk. I think you would have to factor in the flavor the yogurt culture adds to the milk base.
