I recently had a very interesting conversation with a friend of mine who is Agnostic. I was raised in church and am Catholic. He was not trying to change my beliefs but I am open minded and though I completely believe in God- I would like to understand his arguments better. He told me his favorite author was Frederick Nietzsche so I read up on some of his philosophies but I still have many questions. I'M NOT CONVERTING, Just learning. So if you are an Agnostic and feel like talking about this subject in depth, please reply here or e-mail me at love_n_hate84@yahoo.com Thanks in advance!

The Agnostic POV is very simple: an agnostic doesn't know whether or not a god (or gods) exist and doesn't think that we as humans ever can know.

This ideology was first codified by Thomas Huxley who noticed the realm of god shrinking as scientific knowledge expanded, and stated that since there would always be natural phenomena that humans could not explain scientifically, there would always be an area where people could say, "well, god did it!". This is known as the "God of the Gaps".

Agnostics simply say that there is no direct evidence for supernatural being(s), so it doesn't really matter if we believe, worship, supplicate, etc as those actions could hardly matter to a being so immense and obviously uninvolved in our world.

If you are truly open-minded and willing to take the risk of logical thought, I suggest two books, the first "Letter to a Christian Nation" is a short easy read that quickly lays out the arguments against religion. The second is a longer and deeper treatise call "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins that goes into specifics about why religion is not only an ancient relic ready for the dust bin, but actually dangerous to the continuing advancement of mankind.

I applaud you for taking the first step to opening your mind - don't be afraid, you'll find yourself in very good company.

Are you talking about an agnostic or an atheist. An atheist does not believe in god. An agnostic tends not to believe in religion. The religious point is that the word of god that so many people try and shove down throats is nothing more than a few hundred people with quill pens and attitudes trying to control you. Also, anything that was written down has been altered by a few more hundreds of people with attitudes and quill pens. And they use circular logic. - I am perfect and this statement is true. - Using the last half of the statement to prove and support the first half. The bible supports itself and logically it cannot do that. Agnostics have a problem with that.

I am a Catholic that has been heading down the Agnostic road. Like you I am learning but more likely will be converting to something other than Catholic. I totally believe that God is with us everyday. So what can I help you with??

Food fights are so improper. I'm much more lady like and dignified than that. *looks around quickly and flings Mystery Meat at Agnostics* Just this once, don't tell anyone!

Please turn your brain on!!!!

Organized religions are early attempts at political parties. Thats all.

You want to believe in god? Go ahead. Dont believe in Catholicism, Islam, or Judaism. They are all ****. Total ****. They all claim to be the true religion! **** all of them.

As you can obviously tell...I hate organized religion for the life sucking scum it is!
