If you want an easily drinkable yet good wine for not too much money, look for Robert Mondavi Fume Blanc. You can't miss it, it's in a frosted glass bottle.
As in, it looks like a normal white wine bottle, but has this light frost to the outside, like light etching almost. It'll stand out at you when you see it. And I could find it at chain grocery stores in the midwest easily.

Here's a couple of good bets to start with. Anything that is really 'yuck' can be mixed with a splash of Sprite and a squeeze of lemon to get rid of it!
White Zinfandel (is actually pink), and has a light, sweet, fruity taste. Don't get the very cheapest one you can find.
Pinot Noir is a very light, dry red wine that many enjoy.
Bordeaux (red or white) are often quite fresh, fruity, light and lacking in the bitter components that some newer wine tasters find objectionable.
Rhine wines are sweet white wines.
You shouldn't have to spend more than $5-9 for a nice, drinkable bottle of wine. Don't worry about what "other people" like. Think of it along the lines of picking a mate.
Your taste in company is your own. No one decides for you, and you're free to change your opinions at any time!
Best wishes!

If you don't like wine you probably should stick to white, the red wines are more bitter. Some of the less expensive wines are flavored with fruit, you might like these. The brands are Arbor Mist or Wild Vines. Sangria (oddly it is a red) is another good one, it is sweeter that any wine I've had. Zinfandel is good but not as light or sweet as the brands above or as light as the Sangria. After you try the suggestions let us know what you think!

Ernest & Julio Gallo's Cafe Zinfandel is good and some other vineyards are making White Merlot and it is similar to E&J's Cafe Zinfandel. It has a fruity flavor and is a good sit down wine with or without a meal.

Go to Binny's or even Costco they have wines starting at $10.00 which are really good.
If you like a sweeter wine ..try Rieslings German wine, or Pinot Noir or a Merlot...it's not really sweet but it's good for health
why don't you try the Red diamond Merlot from Washington/ or a Rioja from Spain...

If you aren't really a wine drinker try white zinfandel. It's inexpensive and readily available. Newbies to wine like it because it is sweeter than some other wines. It's tasty iced and makes good wine spritzers or other light mixed wine drinks.

If you don't know what kind of wine you like, try finding a wine shop and going to a wine tasting. One there, for a small price, you can sample types of wine they have that day.
Sometimes high-end supermarkets will have wine tastings. I think Trader Joe's does as well if you have those.
Once you know what you like, it is easier (and safer!) to buy a type of wine at the market without tasting it.

Merlots and cabernet sauvignons are usually more tongue friendly. Chiantis too. Just don't spend 5 bucks on a bottle of wine expecting it to taste good.

My favorites are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shirraz....
But if you want something a little smoother try a Zinfandel... Just don't get the White Zinfandel unless you're buying it for a summer picnic...
