No, you don't need a special phone. Yours will work just fine.
But remember, no cable, no electricity = no phone!
In a power outage, our land line phones will still work. If you have a cable service phone and the power or cable goes out, you are SOL.

The cable company will convert the signal to work with regular telephones. That should be invisible to you.
