This comes from the horses mouth (a missionary that was over at our house some years ago) who said their prophet gives them a reading (he didn't call it a reading but it was akin to one) on what to stay away from and what to do. I have never heard any religion or claims of Christian "church" say that their members should not masturbate.

It comes up with the youth of the church for the most part, because the act of masterbation is generally more than that. Masterbation alone can be addictive, but what a person thinks of or looks at when they masterbate can be destructive or demoralizing. Additionally, and and don't think anyone can deny, pornography, which is often looked at when people (at least boys and men) masterbate, is addictive and can destroy relationships.
So, it's more or less staying away from the edge of a cliff by playing it safe. A big part of the LDS faith is about being free from the self, and masterbation is about as pure self as you can get.

Are you asking this question because you, yourself, may be addicted to the practice of sexual self-fullfillment? Why would you care who in the world follows your actions or not, or what religion they are? If it DOES concern you, then maybe you could ask the same of priests, nuns and monks, and other religions as well.

Doesn't every man do it at some point? That doesn't mean they do it forever or can't at least control it...It's called having self-control over sexual desires and passions. I know that the young men are encouraged not to do it.

Honestly, I think they do masturbate. But they probably pray afterward and ask for forgiveness. I don't know why they need to be forgiven, but that's probably what they do.
