Prevention.
If it's something that would leave you heartbroken if it were destroyed, don't put it where baby can reach. The same with stuff that can hurt baby.
Other than that, be an alert parent and show baby (over and over) what is OK to touch and HOW to touch things. (Gentle, soft, etc.) It takes a lot of times for them to learn what is OK and what is not. Be consistent.

Our doctor cautioned against swatting the hand, which is where we started (to the stuff we couldn't move away like electrical outlets, door jams, etc.). Our doctor told us swatting the hand usually makes kids just smack back eventually (which she was doing) and we should firmly say no and remove her from the area. It might take a few times at one thing, but it does work really well! I know the outlet most visible by our front door took a good 5-6 times, but ever since.....she forgot it's even there! Oh and she is 14 months now and we have done this for about....oh two or three months now. Even works at other people's houses and restaurants once she got used to it. GOOD LUCK!

Move everything out of the baby's way.
A baby is curious by nature and you just can't take that away no matter what you do.

touching is how baby's learn...just keep that in mind..either move all things that you don't want baby to mess with..or...(this will take some time on your part) when baby is touching the things you don't want it to mess with..tell he or she NO..in a ferm voice ..but loving voice..Say "No..That is mommy's pretty..." then pick up the baby and show them where their toys are..and say This is yours to play with not Mommy's pretties..You will have to do this over and over until baby realizes you mean what you say..hope this will help you..

I am not sure how old this baby is, but this is how they learn. At this time touch is their strongest sense, don't hinder this. Why would you want to stop this anyway?

if the baby cant climb...move it higher. If they can either teach them not to touch it or put it away.
