I want to move near Atlanta not in Fulton County because of taxes , crime and a looooot of ppl. But i may want to work there so I was wondering where I should move to. It would be my boyfriend and I. If he doesn't want to go I'm still going. I'm a dental asst in FL ( I live 40mins North of Tampa) and I'm starting my BA online in Jan. I'm going to GA this weekend but I don't know where to start to look. Any ideas? Safe location and access to Atlanta. My Uncle lives in Atlanta and my sister is moving to GA in June. I plan to move there sometime in May/June

North West DeKalb county if you need to use MARTA (although I understand that Tucker and Norcross have really gone downhill the last 10-15 years). Stone Mountain is nice.

Otherwise, head for Cobb Co. Traffic is a nightmare because the Cobb. Co. Commission is VERY anal and won't cooperate w/the rest of the metro area, but the area is relatively safe. Marietta is nice. Vinings is VERY high-priced real estate.

If you're willing to commute a little bit, try Carrollton.

The areas you may want to look into include Gwinnett county or Cobb County like everyone is saying. However, I would strongly recommend Cobb county over Gwinnett because of the traffic alone. Everyone lives in Gwinnett and the commute into the city is horrendous! Every morning on the radio the traffic people report of wrecks and delays coming out of there. On the other hand Gwinnett has a great standard of living (that's why everyone wants to live there).

I lived in Smyrna for a while and commuted to downtown Atlanta from there and the commute was a breeze! I took 285 South to I 20 East and this route took me against the flow of traffic so the overall commute time was about 15-20 minutes.

Smyrna (in Cobb county) is a great place to live also because the rent is cheap and the neighborhoods are nice. However, Smyrna is a neighboring city with Vinings (people from Smyrna often fuse the two cities and say they are from Sminings). I would look into moving to Vinings if I were you! It is very uptown-looking with lots of nice restaurants and shopping. It is a very nice residential area where the rent is pretty affordable.

This is my experience, and I hope it helps!

If you can afford it, Dunwoody (that would be my #1). If not get really close to Dunwoody and live in Chamblee (#2), the schools are pretty good there. If you need further out try Cobb County areas like- Smyrna, canton, mableton, or Gwinnett county- think Lawrenceville, Loganville, Snellville, Duluth, Norcross is good too. Go up GA 400 and look at Alpharetta- great schools, suburban. Roswell - same thing This should help get you started. Traffic is a nasty nightmare, especially on Fridays so give it some consideration and do some test drives before you sign a contract on a home.

That is really a tough question to answer. It all depends on where you work and/or how much you are willing to fight the commute. Any job downtown will take you forever to get to work and the parking is terrible. I would suggest finding a job outside of downtown. Marietta (Cobb County) is just north of Atlanta and seems to be a great place. East of Atlanta toward Lawrenceville and Bufford possibly. I would stay North or Northeast. Try to stay on the outter portions of Atlanta.

Marietta is the county seat of Cobb Co. There are lots of 'burbs in Cobb County, and it is growing everyday. It's growing into Cherokee County to the north and Paulding County to the west. Parts of Cobb County very close to Marietta have drugs and thugs (quasi-problem) so move out into the county a ways. West Cobb is farther from Atlanta, and what you are looking for. (Dallas, Ga.)

You might consider Cobb County, a suburb just north of Atlanta. It's well-policed, crime statistics are favorable, it has good schools and lots of businesses. Just look for the Big Chicken. You can't miss it.

Boy, this is scary! I live 30 minutes north of Tampa, and I am moving to ATL in about 6 months; June! I have friends and family there; look at north ATL. Cherokee and Forsyth are growing areas, property taxes are lower than the city area. My friends moved from south ATL to north Gwinnett, they love it.

Peachtree City is a great place to live on the south side of town. If you want to live on the north side, check out Woodstock in Cherokee Co. I was raised in Morrow Ga. but would not live there now.

When I lived there I loved Downtown and Midtown. I also plan on going back in June. This is a good site to check out.
