Conservative Christianity I regard as perverse, freakish and unnatural. I have a deep rooted contempt for Christian evangelicals.

Depends on what you are basing this on. Are you saying it's dark because of those in the past, such as the Roman Catholic Church during the Dark Ages and on, killing off what some would say millions, when historical documents show more like 100,000 (and that's stretching it). If this is the case, then Pagans are dark because of the Aztecs killing off 20,000 in one day. Other groups have also had their fair share of "darkness" in them.
I'm surprised people claiming to be unbiased on other things would be this narrowminded on this. I'm betting you would take up for the minorities, screaming that people should at least be honest about modern Pagans on an individual basis.
BTW, I am Pagan. But even I know that just because you have some in a group that are "Dark" doesn't mean the whole group follows that.

All religion is inherently sinister, even the most apparently benign warm-and-fuzzy English churches. There's something deeply worrying about people who believe, promote and get together to share superstitious nonsense - It's a concept that seems to be the ideal breeding ground for abuse (child-molesting priests), extremism ('god hates fags' etc.), contempt for human life (islamic terrorists) and self-destruction (mass suicides). I'm sure I could think of other things.
No doubt many religious people are wonderful, warm, kind human beings, but religion has an almost unlimited potential to corrupt and deprave - You can see every day in the news that there's absolutely no limit to what a person can end up doing as a result of fervently held religious convictions. I'm reminded of that saying... something along the lines of "good men will do good, and evil men will do evil, but for good men to do evil, that takes religion".

I see it as dark as in blocking out learning and discovery. I believe we've advanced beyond a need for religion, but the veil has yet to be lifted for many.

No, i don't think the religion is dark. But as with every God our god has a dark side that should be acknowledged and honored, our God is a jealous God and if you displease him you will suffer (Sounds like a God that no one could love, huh?) and people don't like to see that there are too sides to our father, they believe that our loving god cannot have a dark side, they are wrong :)

As a matter of fact. they are ALL dark.
Except the pagan religion. They are a matriarchial society and they worship the goddess.
THere is no greater calling than for a male to serve the goddess. It is a religion of light, warmth and salvation.

No. But people can represent it in a very dark way at times.

Indeed. When christianity controlled Europe, 'twas referred to as the "Dark Ages" for a reason.

Gee, let's see. Human sacrifice for sins when the god was previously satisified with animals. Ritual burial of initiates ("Buried with him in baptism, raised to walk in the newness of life"). failure to properly flatter the god results in eternal torture and agony. Ritually eating the founders flesh and blood. Yep that's pretty dark.

Absolutely.
Think of the millions of victims of the Inquisition (very holy), think of the crusades, think of all the so called heretics that were butchered in the name of Christ ...
Pastafarians are the only true believers!
