Buy a Rotato! It really works. Buy a couple of extra blades though because they don't last too long. All you have to do is put the potato inside the rotato and spin the top. It peels the potato in one piece and doesn't take any hand or upper body strength. And the Rotato is cheap. Try a "As Seen on TV" store. I found mine at Sears for around $10. And I sent in for the blades and it was $8.99 for three. I think your first Rotato comes with two blades and they are easy to change.

Well, other than the obvious--a potato peeler---which is just a few dollars at Wal-Mart....she could try just cutting the potatoes up and making mashed potatoes with the peeling on them. Believe it or not, a lot of people actually eat them that way...the restaurant chain "Colton's" serves their potatoes this way...it's really good. I would have never thought of it otherwise. Also, if she boils the potatoes whole for a few minutes, the peeling should come off a lot easier.

My friend only has good use of one of her hands. The other she hasn't had much use of ever since she was little, after she had open heart surgery and they nicked a nerve. Anyways, she has this nifty little device that you put the potato on and a blade (like on a carrot peeler) goes around the potato peeling it all. It is battery operated, so really all that you have to manually do it put the potato on it, and then take it off. I think that she got it at one of those "as seen on tv" stores. She loves it, and says that it works really good. Hopefully you can find something like this for your mom, and I hope that it works for her.

Try an apple peeler it is a gadget that clips to the counter and once you impale the food on it you crank the handle and a blade peels it. I have used this for yams and other hard tubers when I have to make alot and it works great.
There are lots of other kitchen tools that work for arthritis too, check out this link: http://arthritis.about.com/od/inthekitchen/tp/kitchentools.htm,
you could also have everyone bring dishes to moms that way the dinner is still there but it saves her some work. Good Luck!

I know there ARE several gadgets out there that will peel taters for those with Arthritis... others have given you great links.
My sister-in-law has the same problem (and refuses help), so this year she used Yukon Gold potatos with the skins on. No one noticed !!

I don't know of any gadgets, but you could use redskin potatoes and just leave the skin on. It makes for a nice addition to the meal.
