Ronald Regan National Airport (KDCA) is located about 8 miles away and Dulles International Airport (KIAD) is located about 15 miles away. Dulles is probably easier to get to as it is not located directly in Washington DC it is on the outskirts of the city.http://www.legfind.com/AirportDetail.aspx

It is a very safe area--an affluent suburban neighborhood, with some retail, including an EconoLodge (perhaps that's where you're staying?) on Lee Highway. Some high-priced apartments were just built along that stretch too, with a new restaurant or two catering to those in their 20s and 30s. By the way, despite the title, the neighborhood is actually in Arlington, not in the nearby city of Falls Church. The neighborhood was once part of Falls Church, but was transferred to Arlington long ago, keeping the name of East Falls Church. Other than showing the good habits that everyone should practice these days (not wandering around late at night, etc.), you can rest easy. It would be harder to find a nicer, safer area in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Dulles is the closest airport - and probably the cheapest airport in the area if you are heading to other major U.S. cities.
Me- I travel twice a month for work and I prefer National Airport - it's very efficient (though I live in DC, not in Falls Church).

Yes it is a fine area. The walk from the metro station toward falls church can be a little dangerous, only because the roads are set up so it is hard for the cars to see you. Stay on the sidewalk, or take the back way (email me independently if that is not clear) to the hotel to avoid.

I think it is Dulles International. I haven't checked the mileage but it possibly could be Regan International in Washington D.C.

Reagan (DCA) may be closer to you, but Dulles (IAD) is going to have many more international flights. Reagan National is a domestic airport.
