i wanted my friend to come here to america to visit me and for me to sponsor him i would need to have at least 2,000 dollars in the bank so what i did was i got some "non immigrant visa application forms" for him so he can get here on his own. How much money would he need to show in his bank account for him to come here to america? are there any other papers he would need? do i have to give him an invitation letter also with this to make sure the embassy believes he will be coming here and he will have a place to stay? please some one help me on this i'm really confused.. thanxx for your time.

An invitation letter would go a long way in making things easier. The embassies are more lenient if a citizen is inviting the person to their country.

You are asking about a tourist visa. Typically, he needs to show that:

1/ He has a return ticket back to his home country.
2/ The physical address of the person he is visiting. He can do this in the form of a formal letter of invitation from you. If he was part of a travel cruise, they would ask for a copy of his itinerary and so forth.
3/ He needs to show that he can support his visit in the U.S. Anywhere from $2k to $5k should be enough but he should really try and find out what the "magic figure" is from people who have gone thru the process or from the U.S. embassy itself.

There is additional paperwork now reuqired since 9/11. For a complete list, he or you should visit www.uscis.gov and click on tourist visa information for a complete list of docs needed to submit with the application. Hope that helps!

Depending on where he's from the requirements may vary harshly and will most likely depend on the local consulate. Where I'm from for example, the regional consulate will not give tourist visas for people born in a specific city no matter how wealthy they may be. As a general rule, they are looking for people that fit into the profile of people that are likely to overstay their visit.

You're going through a lot for this person. Is he someone you want to take time for doing all of this, or is he just using you? I am not trying to not help you, but a lot of American's are suspicious of folks wanting to come here now. I just think you should apply more information to your question. Be careful when it comes to illegals wanting your help to come here, as a lot of American's are taken, meaning decieved, so alien's can get a free ride. You sure about this guy?

How did he get to become your friend? I wonder if you're being played here.
