If you are interested in "buying" a foreign child like our celebrities do, I would think that takes a lot of money, which buys power. If you genuinely want to help a needy child, start in the US. So many of our own children go to bed hungry, and there are child aid agencies of some kind in every state.
If you want to help an African child, go to Christian Children's Fund on the net and become a child sponsor. For a mere $24 per month you can sponsor a child, and help his/her family and community. You can write to the child and keep in touch all the while he/she grows up, and you get the joy of helping others.

I have adopted 3 children from the foster care system. There is a HUGE need for promise homes for African American foster children. Contact your local Office of Community Services. Getting certified to foster or adopt is easy and there is no out of pocket expense for you to adopt. If you have a room in your house for a child and can pass a criminal background check then you can adopt a foster child who desperately needs a home and family. Check out www.adoptuskids.org, you can see pictures of children waiting for homes as well as all the information you need to adopt. I hope this helps and God Bless!

Run, don't walk, to your nearest child welfare agency! Become a foster/adopt parent! There are thousands of children, of all ages, in "the system" and many of them are children of color.
Look at listings on Adoptuskids.org and look at listings for Texas, Florida and New York. All those states have tons of legally free kids.
Speak to other parents who have adopted AA kids (I have 6) and make sure you want to adopt an AA child for the right reasons, knowing there are challenges with special needs children and trans-racial adoptions.
All the best to you! Nothing is impossible, and I'd be happy to chat with you if I can help at all! Maeve in Olympia, WA - maevel@yahoo.com

why adopt an African-American or African child? Stop it! You're not Angelina Jolie or Madonna! It won't ever happen 4 U! You may be able to adopt locally in your surrounding area; not internationally, who would know? It MUST be publicized.

you may start with World Vision, go to the website www.worldvision.com and sponsor a child for only $30 a month. This will provide education, food, shelter and access to good health services.
Whatever little you do, God blesses it and it will go a long way! You will definitely impact the life of a child in need!

IF YOU ARE SERIOUS IMMEDIATELY CONTACT YOUR AREA CHILDRENS SERVICES AGENCY!!!
Every state calls it something different. DCF, DSS, CFS, etc...but they all have access to espeically racial minority children just waiting to be adopted, espeically not babies and sibling groups.
As to African adoptions, the countries rules on adoption apply and can be quite complicated. However, google international african adoption agencies and see what you get. I have seen alot of African countries not allowing out of country adoptions right now, like South Africa despite the AIDS pandemic!

I think more and more people need to adopt children in our OWN country. Why should we forget about our own children and care for others. I mean, that's great and everything but, it's not good enough. Just in the last year, all you hear about is these actors who HAVE to get a third world country baby. And I think Angelina Jolie just needs to SHUT UP.

It might be nice if you would get involved in Big Brothers/Big Sisters or the area recreation areas and you would be able to "adopt" a whole neighborhood of kids who could use a positive role model. THEN, decide if you want to put your heart into one child who is underpriviledged, or many. God bless you for even thinking of giving that much of yourself.
