So what's wrong with that? Oprah is in a position to get items from sponsors. Yes, they regard it as advertising, but the point is, she can do it and you and I can't. And people who attend her show love the gifts that she is able to provide.
As to why she isn't spending her own money to purchase things to give away -- how much of that do you do? Why would you expect her to do it? Does the president of the US spend his own money for tax relief? To send weapons and ammunition to the troops? For his travel expenses as he jaunts around the world? If it's reasonable to expect Oprah to pay for goods given away on her show, which is her job, then it's reasonable to expect the president to pay for things that he gives in the course of doing his job.
Right? Of course.....

If you do your research Oprah actually gives away quite a bit of her own money!
AND there have also been some shows where she does show what she is doing and tells that she paid for it out of pocket.

I heard she gave away cars once and people got screwed b/c the govt came after them for taxes. So really you can only give someone who's not a non-proft so much before Uncle Sam demands his share.

I think Oprah is actually one of the biggest donators in our society. The fact it's not widely known is to her credit I think. There's something in the Bible, and probably all religious traditions, about not boasting when you do good works.
Don't get me wrong, she annoys me - but then I don't know her personally, and I'm a techy person!

Oprah gives away more money than any other millionaire celebrity I know!!!! She usually donates it to individuals, or those in other countries...namely Africa. She is funding an entire private girls school in Africa.....from the foundation to the teachers salaries! C'mon...find someone else to pick on. How much money do you donate annually? What percentage of your salary? People in glass houses....

Oprah helps ALOT of people.....She adopted 10 kids and bought them a new house and paid for their school!!!!Plus she has spent ALOT of money on sending needy kids to college and helping families everywhere!!!!

I don't care if she doesn't give away a dime. She's earned it, but she shouldn't advertise her TV show here when she asks a question. That's lame.
